Japan bank to open office in Sakhalin
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, July 11 (Itar-Tass) - The Japanese Hokkaido GinkoBank intends to open its office in Sakhalin. This intention was expressed by bank executive director Sasahara Masahiro at a meeting with First Vice-Governor of the Sakhalin Region Konstantin Stroganov in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on Thursday.
The executive director, heading a bank delegation, inspects business and financial activities of the insular region, tackling oil and gas shelfprojects with the participation of Japanese companies.
Stroganov noted that the Sakhalin Region administration "welcomes the intention of the bank management to come to the Sakhalin market of banking services". The Sakhalin Region is interested in consolidating businesscooperation with Japan, and there are already positive examples.
Major oil and gas companies of the neighbour country actively participate in shelf projects. Besides, there are points of contact in thesphere of small business," the vice-governor noted.
The bank executive director stated that arrangement procedures are already in progress at the Bank of Russia, and he hopes that "all thesequestions will be settled positively in the near future".
The Hokkaido Ginko Bank was founded on March 5, 1951. It specialises mostly in crediting small businesses. Its assets now stand at 30.7 billionUS dollars.
