DPRK demands that USA "stop provocations" in Panmunjom
PYONGYANG, July 11 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea has demanded that theUnited States "stop provocations" in the border point of Panmunjomin in the Demilitarised Zone separating the Korean Peninsula.
As the Korean Central News Agency (CCT) reported, representative of the mission of the Korean People's Army (KPA) in Panmunjom Senior Colonel Kwak Yong hun held a meeting with representatives of the UN Armistice Commission on Thursday.
At the meeting, he stated "a resolute protest" in connection with actions of the United States, "hampering soldiers of the DPRK border guard to fulfil their duties in the negotiating huts" on the border. The localpress doesn't specify what kind "provocations" the American side made.
On the side of the south, Panmunjom is guarded jointly by US and South Korean servicemen. The negotiating huts, which are situated across the military demarcation line, serve as a place of regular contacts betweenthe opposing sides.
As the CCT notes, at Thursday's meeting, a US representative informed the North about a joint with South Korea military exercise scheduled for August 18-22. For his part, the KPA representative called on the US side to refuse this exercise, "heightening tension in the Korean Peninsula." "The United States, speaking about improving relations with the DPRK, in reality, almost every day holds military exercises, preparing for anattack on the North," he stressed.
