ISAF DefMins to meet in Berlin Tue to discuss Afghan sit`.
BERLIN, May 11 (Itar-Tass) - The situation in Afghanistan will be
discussed here on Tuesday by the Defence ministers and Chiefs of the
General Staff of the countries participating in the International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF), the military contingents of which are part of the
regional command North.
According to information from the German Defence Ministry, the
informal meeting, which will also involve representatives of the European
Union and NATO, will be held at the invitation of German Defence Minister
Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
Germany has fielded the third-largest ISAF contingent -- about 4,700
men -- and is heading the ISAF regional command North with headquarters in
Mazar-i-Sharif. The regional command North, apart for Bundeswehr units,
also includes those of Sweden (485-strong), Hungary (335), Norway (470),
and Turkey (1,795).
The overall numerical strength of ISAF is about 102,500 servicemen
from 46 countries.
