BISHKEK, May 12 (Itar-Tass) - Participants in a rally in Kyrgyzstan's
capital Bishkek have demanded a meeting with the country's interim
government.
Some of them claim the government has failed to detain any members of
former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev's entourage.
About two to three thousand are taking part in the rally in the square
next to the country's parliament. None of the participants can say who has
organised the demonstration. Some people are handing out leaflets
supporting the former mayor of Bishkek, Nariman Tyuleyev. The rally
participants welcome everyone who wants to address the public.
Security agencies do not intend to use force against the
demonstrators, the acting chief of Kyrgyzstan's National Security Service,
Keneshbek Duishebayev, told reporters.
"We have come to power through rallies and we do not have any
intention to prevent peaceful demonstrations," he said.
However, any illegal actions will be stopped, he said.
Bishkek's Police Support members and volunteers announced on Wednesday
that they would patrol the city. They say they have evidence some
'destructive forces' may undertake attempts to destabilise the situation
in the city on Wednesday and on May 14 and 17.
