RF FM recommends Russians take Thailand tours with responsibility.
14/5 Tass 236
MOSCOW, May 14 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends
Russian citizens take decisions on tourism tours in Thailand with
responsibility over a deteriorating situation in this country.
"We are seriously concerned over a sharply deteriorating standoff
between the governmental forces and the opposition in the Thai capital
Bangkok. After the oppositionists had refused to fulfil the orders from
the authorities and to leave the business centre of the city occupied by
them, army and police units blocked their locations," a diplomatic source
in the Russian Foreign Ministry said. A man was killed, several more
people were injured in the clashes. An opposition leader was severely
injured. The electric power and water supplies were disrupted, the mobile
communication is unstable in several districts of the city.
The state of emergency was introduced in 17 Thai provinces. "We hope
that the parties to the conflict will show restraint and the situation
will get back on the track. We hope that the current disagreements will be
settled through dialogue and under the law," the diplomatic source said.
In this respect, the Russian Foreign Ministry recommends strongly
Russian citizens, who are going to visit the Kingdom of Thailand "not to
visit Bangkok and to take a thought-out and responsible decision on a trip
over an aggravating situation in this country." "Russian citizens
currently staying in Thailand should be particularly cautious, should
fulfil all the demands made by the authorities and avoid massive actions
of protest," the Russian diplomatic source warned.
Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Phirom will visit Russia on May 20 to 23.
"High on the agenda of his working visit is broader bilateral relations
between the countries in various fields," the diplomat said. "The Thai
minister will also inform his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the
domestic political situation in the kingdom."
