G15 summit deals a blow to Iran’s enemies
TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) -- The G15 summit in Tehran is a sign of the failure of the United States’ campaign to isolate the Islamic Republic and shows Iran’s strong position in international diplomacy, Iranian MPs say.
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi says the United States should change its attitude toward Iran and adopt a more realistic approach when dealing with international issues.
On the one hand, the fact that the G15 summit is being held in Tehran is an indication of the Islamic Republic’s stability and strength in the regional and international spheres, and on the other hand, it shows how the U.S. and some other Western countries have been wrong in their assessment of Iran as an isolated nation, Boroujerdi told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday.
The G15 summit is an important and influential meeting, both in terms of the level of participants and also its theme, Boroujerdi said.
The Mehr News Agency talked to a number of other MPs on Saturday to learn their views on the G15 summit.
MP Gholamreza Karami said that the G15 summit is a sign of the failure of the enemies’ propaganda campaign meant to isolate Iran.
The hegemonistic powers made relentless efforts to convince the countries of the Global South to not attend the G15 summit, but the high level of participation for this meeting shows the Islamic Republic has a high status in the international arena, he stated.
The G15 summit sends the message that despite the various tools of pressure and sanctions applied by certain Western countries and the United States in particular, the rest of the world refuses to capitulate to these powers and tries to act independently, he added.
MP Seyyed Ali Aghazadeh Dafsari said the G15 summit deals a blow to the U.S. efforts to isolate Iran.
The G15 summit in Tehran has thwarted the global arrogance’s smear campaign against the Islamic Republic and increased their own isolation in the international community, he stated.
With their strong presence at the Tehran summit, the independent nations have shown that they are not swayed by the global arrogance and will not put their unity in jeopardy by bowing to those powers, he observed.
MP Hossein Ebrahimi said the United States, the Zionist regime, and their allies are frustrated by the G15 summit and similar meetings organized by the countries of the Global South and have always sought to isolate those nations.
But developing countries have always stood up to them, he added.
The domineering powers should be aware that the world is no longer a unipolar system but is moving toward a balanced system with humanity playing an increasingly important role in it, he observed.
Ebrahimi said the countries of the Global South should make efforts to consolidate their unity and expand the reach of their influence through such groupings.
More countries should join the Group of 15 in order to make it a more powerful bloc with a greater say in the decision-making process for various issues at the international level, he noted.
The Islamic Republic has emerged as a powerful country in the international arena, and the fact that the United States and its ally Israel have reacted to Iran’s rising strength in various ways shows their fear and anxiety, Ebrahimi added.
The Group of 15 is a group of 18 developing countries from Asia, Africa, and Latin America that was established to foster economic cooperation and provide input for other international groups.
It is comprised of Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jamaica, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
