Verdicts finalized for 217 unrest detainees in Iran

TERHAN, May 16 (MNA) -- The court verdicts for 217 people arrested in connection with the post-election unrest have been finalized, Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi announced on Saturday.

If today, there has been no move to prosecute the “leaders of sedition”, it is not due to inability or heedlessness, but it is because the time for that has not come yet, Jafari-Dolatabadi said.

“We give assurance to the people that the Judiciary is moving within this framework, and if we are silent today, it does not mean that we have accepted these statements” by the leaders of sedition, he added.

Commenting on statements made by defeated opposition leaders in which they denounced the recent execution of five counter-revolutionary terrorists, the Tehran prosecutor general said, “When a court verdict is issued, nobody has the right to condemn the judicial system.”

Raising objections to the court rulings conveys the message that innocent people have been executed, he added.
