Iran loses to S. Korea in Asian youth volleyball
TEHRAN, May 16 (MNA) -- Iran was defeated by South Korea in the 8th Asian Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championship on Saturday.
The Iranians were beaten by the Koreans 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 22-25) in the match held at the Azadi Stadium Hall. Iran overpowered Australia 3-0 in its first match.
The Iranian team is scheduled to play Sri Lanka on Sunday.
The competition is regarded as the qualification tournament for both the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and for the 2011 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship.
A total of 10 teams divided into two pools of five for the preliminary round with Pool A consisting of host and defending champions Iran, China, South Korea, Australia and Sri Lank while Japan, runners up in 2009, head Pool B with India, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
