Iranian parliament speaker: Brazil’s involvement in nuclear talks is constructive

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) - Ali Larijaini, Iran’s parliament speaker, said Tehran welcomes Brazil’s involvement in the nuclear talks, calling it a “constructive” move.

“Iran sees Brazil’s view toward the nuclear issue as constructive,” Larijani said in a meeting with Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva in Tehran on Sunday.

Larijani also said, “Iran welcomes the involvement of other new players in the (nuclear) negotiations.”

The Brazilian president’s visit to Tehran has won international attention as the country has been trying to broker an agreement between Iran and the West over a stalled proposed nuclear fuel deal.

President Ahmadinjead, while visiting the NTP review conference in New York in early May, said Tehran has agreed “in principle” with a proposal suggested by Brazil for nuclear fuel exchange.

According to reports, Brazil and Turkey have drawn up a joint proposal for nuclear fuel swap.

On Sunday the foreign minister of Iran, Brazil, and Turkey held talks over proposed nuclear fuel swap.

Iran has announced that fuel swap is feasible based on the Brazil-Turkey proposal.

Iran has repeatedly said it is ready to swap its low-enriched uranium for high-grade uranium on its territory to supply the Tehran research reactor, which produces radioisotopes for cancer patients.
