Sarkozy seeks EU-Ukraine privileged partnership agreement
PARIS, July 12 (Itar-Tass) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy onFriday urged partners in the EU and the European Commission to sign a new agreement on privileged partnership between the European Union and Ukraine.
The French leader said it in a message to the participants of theYalta European Strategy summit.
The international forum, which opened in Yalta on Thursday, is aimed at ensuring support for Ukraine's integration into the European Union.
France currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the EU.
In his message, Sarkozy also expressed hope that the European Union and Kiev "will be able to sign at a bilateral summit in Evian on September 9 an historical political agreement" on partnership, which could be signed early in 2009.
