Kopin replaces Abramovich as Chukotka region governor

ANADYR, July 13 (Itar-Tass) - The candidacy of Roman Kopin has been unanimously approved as governor of a remote Arctic region to replace Roman Abramovich, who after eight years of governing Chukotka filed a resignation request.

On July 3, President Dmitry Medvedev signed Abramovich's resignation and on July 11 submitted the candidacy of the Chukotka deputy governor for consideration of local legislators.

"We have much to do to preserve high management standards createdby Roman Abramovich and follow the path of Chukotka's development. I will do my utmost for this," the new governor said.

He stressed that the priority of his government is to further develop the Chukotka region and implement the region's development strategy until 2020.
