Kamchatka celebrates Fisher's Day.
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, July 13 (Itar-Tass) - Kamchatka - Russia's fishing peninsula - celebrates the Fisher's Day on Sunday.
"This holiday is one of the most loved and respected ones amongpopulation of the peninsula," Kamchatka region governor Alexei Kuzmitsky said.
"The peninsula's history is closely linked with the development of the fishing industry, fishing companies and fish-processing enterprises," he said.
As of January 1, Kamchatka's fishers ensured 23 percent of Russia's total catch of bioresources, the governor said.
The peninsula's fishing industry accounts for 50-60 percent of theregion's industrial volumes and remains the region's priority area.
The capital of the peninsula - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - hosts main festivities with theatrical street shows and contests. Local cooks prepared traditional Kamchatka ukha (fish soup) from 250 kilograms ofsalmon and fish pie with 100 kilograms of salmon.
