ELBEGDORJ MEETS "WORLD HARMONY RUN" PEOPLE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President Elbegdorj has met with the athletes of the World Harmony Run and the members of the Committee to organize the run in Mongolia N.Tsogtbaatar, S.Bilegt, the U.S. athlete P.Kalagian and a Russian athlete L.Peyukalova.
Many athletes from all over the world initiated this run to contribute to the cause of peace and harmony. The Asian part of the marathon started off April 24, 2010 in Hiroshima, Japan, and has coverd 700 km in Japan, 450 km in South Korea and some 1,000 km in China, thus reaching Mongolia May 15 at Havirga in Dornod province.
The marathon has gathered athletes from the USA, Russian Federation and Mongolia. They are planning to run 2,600 km in Mongolia from its east to western borders to reach the Tsagaannuur port of Bayan-Ulgii province on June 7, further heading to the Russian Gorno-Altaisk city. There, the torch of the run will be handed to the Russian athletes.
A member of the group, a volunteer runner has expressed a support to the Presidential decree on promoting public sports in Mongolia and has thanked the State head for initiatives to promote peace, understanding and harmony.
A philosopher, musician, poet Sri Chinmoi initiated this peace run in 1987 starting off at the UN headquarters in New York every two years, and thus a tradition has been established for the run to cover more than 100 countries.
Mongolia joined the run in 1995 and has participated 13 times since then expressing a solidarity with the humankind for peace, harmony and prosperity.
