World Population Day marked

(KPL) Laos marked the World Population Day in Vientiane last Friday, under theme "Family Planning and it's a Right let's make it Real" to promote the right of gender and children.

The ceremony was given a speech by country representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to Laos, Ms Mieko Yabuta said, "The 2008 World Population Day focuses on Family Planning which is aimed at enabling couples and individuals to decide freely and responsible about the number of their children and also to have information and means to do so and to ensureinformed choices".

World Population Day is an annual event celebrated throughout the world to raise awareness on the importance of population and socio-economic development. The theme for this year is Family Planning, which promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a healthy life and equalopportunities.

This year theme will assist in preventing unwanted pregnancies, reduces recourse to abortion reducing poverty and will ensure that every pregnancy is wanted every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV and AIDS,and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.

The event also attended by Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr Soulivong Dalavong, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bounkouang Phichit, the head of other departments from the Ministry of Health, international organization, officials from the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the officialsfrom the concerned sectors.
