Kamchatka approves program to develop competition on food market
PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, July 14 (Itar-Tass) -- The Kamchatkaterritorial authorities approved a long-term program on the development of competition on the food market and the protection of consumer rights in the territory.
The program will be implemented in 2008-2010, territorialminister of agriculture and trade Andrei Sizintsev said.
"We need a program that envisages methods and instruments for therestoration of the agro-industrial complex in Kamchatka," Sizintsev said.
According the approved program pursues this aim.
The development of competition in Kamchatka's economy will make commodity producers to increase the labour efficiency and the quality of produce, enlarge the production scale and retain the price growth, the territorial government believes. Under the approved program it is plannedto promote the development of competition on the regional food market.
"In particular, several proposals will be made to optimise the rent rates for bread retail traders," Sizintsev said. "We will consider all proposals to compensate for some expenses related with the participation at interregional and international fairs and open agriculturalmarketplaces in the territory," he said.
The program envisages the price monitoring at all stages of production and the sale of socially important food products and the prevention of inferior quality food supplies from coming on the peninsula. The network of retail shops should enlarge, and the number of retail traders representing Kamchatka producers at the marketplaces should increase. New shops are planned to open for people in low-income brackets, and the prices on major kinds of bread are planned to stabilize in remote and hard-to-reach districts of the peninsula, where a bread loaf costs from 27to 43 roubles now.
