Tehran hopes for early fulfilment of agts with Gazprom

TEHRAN, July 14 (Itar-Tass) - Tehran hopes for the earliest fulfilment of agreements formulated in the memorandum of understanding that was signed here on Sunday with Russia's natural gas giant Gazprom, Petroleum Minister of the Islamic Republic Gholam Hossein Nozari said, the local media reported on Monday.

"The important clause of the memorandum is the decision to set up aRussian-Iranian joint enterprise (for oil and gas projects)," the Iranian minister noted.

According to him, the document also says about the development by Gazprom of the world's largest gas condensate deposit - Southern Pars, cooperation in the sphere of oil transportation from the Caspian Sea to the Gulf of Oman along the route Neka-Jask (Iran's major ports cities in the Caspian and Gulf of Oman, respectively), construction of an oil refinery in the north of Iran, as well as development of theNorthern Azagedan oilfield.

"Another agreement is a swap operation on gas that will be conducted by Gazprom in the north of Iran, and after that the gas will be sold inthe south of Iran to countries consumers," said Nozari.

The minister drew attention to the fact that Moscow and Tehran have "for the first time reached such large-scale agreements." "The parties agreed that this memorandum will be fulfilled in the shortest period oftime, and I personally support this," he pointed out.

The document was signed by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Seyfollah Jashnsaz onSunday in the presence of Nozari.

Within the framework of a brief visit to the Iranian capital, the Gazprom head was received by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. At this meeting the Iranian executive power head welcomed the "presence of Gazprom in the Iranian oil and gas industry." According to him, "The Russian company's serious participation in one-two projects (in Iran) may create the ground for the further intensive activities." The Iranian president also pointed to the "considerable potential of the two countries" stressing that Moscow and Tehran "can cooperate on the bilateral and multilateral basis in providing natural gas to European countries, as well as India and China."
