Mohammed bin Zayed launches face recognition system at Abu Dhabi airport
Abu Dhabi, July 16, 2008 (WAM) - General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces yesterday launched the face recognition electronic system - a highly advanced biometric technology that will be used for the first time in the world by Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Sheikh Mohammed unveiled the plaque of the face recognition system, which will be implemented initially at the Abu Dhabi airport, then at all ports of entry in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that the UAE, under the wise leadership ofPresident His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will spare no effort to enable the authorities play an active role in maintaining the country's security. He praised the efforts being made by the law and order authorities in the UAE, led by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, to prevent crime and to employ the latest technology and best capabilities.
Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the system which complements the irisrecognition technology, in use at all land, sea and airports. He also toured the e-gates at the airport, used to ease passengers' entry procedures.
HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan hailed the move to introduce facerecognition technology, saying that it came as part of Sheikh Mohammed's vision for modernization. "We are determined to streamline the police efficiency in one of the world's most secure countries," Sheikh Saif said.
Major General Nasser Al Raisi, Director of Central Operations, said the iris scan system helped detect 254,000 violators since its implementation.
