Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies to build US$75 million hangar
Abu Dhabi, July 16, 2008 (WAM) - Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT), the Middle East's foremost independent maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider, is announcing the construction of a new 96,000 square foot hangar, which will increase the company's working capacity and business capabilities by 35 percent once completed by 2010.
The US$75 million facility - one of the largest open span hangars worldwide - is part of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies' ongoing strategy to achieve a US $800 million revenue stream by 2012 and will be the company's sixth hangar in total and the second announced this year.
Work is already well underway on a dedicated single bay, line and light maintenance hangar for Etihad Airways - the UAE's national airline - as part of a US$500 million, five-year MRO pact signed between the two last year. The expansion of ADAT's facilities is a key component of transforming Abu Dhabi's existing aerospace industry into a global aerospace hub.
"Amid the strong growth in Middle Eastern and global MRO sectors, the
development of new facilities is key to securing a sizeable share of the forecasted industry expansion," said John Byers, CEO, ADAT, which is wholly-owned by Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala).
The hangar, able to accommodate five wide body aircraft and two narrow body aircraft simultaneously, will be serviced by workshops and support facilities covering over 21,000 square feet, upping the company's MRO capabilities in the aircraft interiors segment.
In addition, the hangar will also boast suspended docking and other
essential lifting equipment. A combination of service pits covering the full range of utilities repair, such as power outlets, aircraft power, motor air, fuel tank ventilation and preconditioned air will also be available. These bays have been specially designed to optimise the servicing positioning options for all aircraft types.
ADAT, the former Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Company (GAMCO), plans to invest US $580 million across three autonomous divisions - commercial, military and industrial - over the next five years.
Positioned as a total care provider, the company offers a wide range of integrated MRO solutions, on the majority of Airbus and Boeing aircraft type covering airframe services, including 'A' and 'C' checks, technical, procurement and logistics and engine services, including its innovative Total Care Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Support product - a first-of-its-kind in the sector.
