Khalifa, Nazarbayev hold talks
Astana - July 16, 2008 (WAM) - President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held official talks yesterday with Kazak President Nursultan Nazarbayeb, at the presidential palace in Kazak capital, Astana.
Nazarbayeb welcomed Sheikh Khalifa and the delegation accompanying him in the first state visit to Kazakhstan. "We know your feelings towards Kazakhstan. Because of these noble feelings the relations between the two countries grew rapidly in all fields". He added that the people of Kazakhstan have been Muslims deep in history, but their relations were severed sometime with the Muslim world, adding that the relations were resumed once more when Kazakhstan got its independence. "We are looking forward to the visit as an important step to help Kazakhstan occupy its position in the Arab world".
On his part, Sheikh Khalifa thanked Nazarbayev for good reception, stressing the fraternal nature of bilateral relations between the two countries. "When we visit Kazakhstan we feel to be in our second country". He added that he was impressed by the development being experienced by Kazakhstan under wise leadership of Nazarbayev.
"There is qualitative progress in areas of construction, economy, social and tourism noticed when we visit Kazakhstan each time. Such rapid growth opens before us huge opportunities in different fields", Sheikh Khalifa added, calling for expertise, experience and visit exchange between the two countries. He added that he was looking forward to the talks, which would lead to further joint ventures that serve the best interests of the UAE and Kazakhstan.
The two sides held larger talks attended on the UAE sides by Representative of Ruler in Eastern Region HH Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Presidential Affairs Minister HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan , Culture, Youth and Community Development Minister HE Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Deputy Presidential Affairs Minister HE Ahmed Jumaa Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Kazakhstan Ibrahim Hassan Saif and Khalfan Sultan Al Kitbi, undersecretary of the private department of Sheikh Khalifa. The meeting was attended by the high ranking Kazak officials.
The meeting discussed current cooperation and joint projects between the two countries. Both sides expressed satisfaction about the execution of those projects, citing the initiatives of the UAE private sector in Kazakhstan. The two sides shared in the talks common ground on the regional and international issues. They underscored need for solidarity among the Muslim countries to serve just causes of the Muslim world.
