Italian president leaves Moscow for St Petersburg

MOSCOW, July 17 (Itar-Tass) - Visiting Italian President Giorgio
Napolitano has ended his visit to Moscow. He and his wife will head for St. Petersburg on Thursday. They will land at Pulkovo international airport in St. Petersburg on Thursday afternoon.

After some sightseeing on the first day, the Italian president will
meet representatives of the administration of Russia's North West region
on July 18.

A source in the St. Petersburg government press service told Itar-Tass
that President Napolitano and his wife would begin their cultural program
in St. Petersburg with a visit to the Mariinsky Theatre to see one-act
ballets.

On July 18, the Italian president will meet Ilya Klebanov , the
Russian president's envoy in the North-Western federal district, in
Strelna. Giorgio Napolitano will also have a working dinner with the
Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Viktor Lobko. It will be given on behalf
of the St. Petersburg government.

President Napolitano will visit the Hermitage and the Russian Museum.
He will also pay a visit to Italy's General Consulate in St. Petersburg.

The Italian president will end his state visit to Russia on July 18.
He will leave St. Petersburg for Rome late on Friday.
Earlier, during his talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
Giorgio Napolitano said that both the Italian political circles and broad
public wanted to develop relations with Russia. "Governments change but
the development of close and friendly relations with Russia remains an
inalienable part," the Italian president said.

For his part, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev described
Russian-Italian
relations as exceptionally good. Reciprocal trade turnover reached 37
billion US dollars last year. Medvedev also stressed the importance of
humanitarian cooperation. " "We have two major humanitarian events. The
transfer of the St Nicolas church in Bar to Russia and the 100th
anniversary of the humanitarian operation of the Russan fleet to rescue
residents of Messina."
"These are remarkable examples of our cooperation," the Russian
president said.
