Switzerland gives 2.4 billion kip to Laos to prepare for WTO application

VIENTIANE, 16 JUNE (KPL) - Switzerland gave 2.4 billion kip to the Lao government to enable it to lay the ground work for application to become a full-fledged member of World Trade Organisation (WTO). The signing of this agreement took place in Vientiane on 15 June and the signatories were Mr. Somchit Inthamit, Head of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning and Investment and Mr. Christoph Burgener, ambassador of Switzerland to Laos.
This signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mrs. Khemmany Phonsena and Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Bounthavy Sisouphanthong.
The IDEAS Organisation was under the purview of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
“The government prioritized trade at the international level to foster trade between Laos and the other countries in the world and so it viewed membership of World Trade Organisation as an important step leading to the expansion of trade of Laos, ” said Mrs. Khemmany Pholsena.
