Parliaments of non-recognized republics to meet in September
TIRASPOL, July 18 (Itar-Tass) - Deputies of the non-recognized
Dniester republic, Abkhazia and South Ossetia will hold a meeting of the inter-parliamentary assembly For Democracy and Rights of Peoples in Tiraspol in early September, the leader of the Dniester region's
parliament, Yevgeny Shevchuk, told reporters.
He said the participants in the meeting would discuss a broader
inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Shevchuk said the Dniester parliament has the established cooperation with the Russian State Duma lower house of parliament.
"At the same time, cooperation with the parliaments of Ukraine and
Belarus is insufficiently developed, and actually there is no interaction with the Moldovan parliament", he said.
The Moldovan and Dniester parliaments signed an official agreement in 2001, and deputies met and exchanged views.
"However, interaction stopped later. I first met Moldovan parliament Speaker Marian Lupu in Brussels in this year's May. We discussed possibilities for the restoration of inter-parliamentary contacts. This cooperation would help solving the most acute problems and reducing the current heat of conflict," Shevchuk said.
