NA session continues debate on draft law on handicraft

(KPL) Mr. Nam Vignaketh, Minister of Industry and Commerce, on July 16 presented the draft law on handicraft to the National Assembly's fifth session, chaired by Mrs. Pany Yathotou, Vice-President of the National Assembly.

The draft law on handicraft comprised with 10 chapters, and 66 articles. It determines principles, rules, and measures to manage, transport, develop handicraft products.

The draft law also focuses to offer a number of jobs and to improve the
living condition of all ethnic people. It is also aimed to preserve
traditional culture, and art of production handicraft products.

The law covers government policies to stimulate handicraft growth such as
capital and funds, information supply, consultancy, tax and customs, the
state policy on credit release, labour skills market development and
promotion for handicraft items, marketing, protection of handicrafts,
grouping and the establishment of a training centre for handicraft.

Dr. Nam Vignaketh, said if the law was approved, these policies would
encourage growth, create employment and increase income-generation
opportunities for people who produce handicraft goods.

It would also provide a legal framework to support production processes, so
investors and businesses had the confidence required to develop their
industry. The drafted law would provide protection and benefits for small
businesses in the sector.
