Villagers in Sekong urge government to develop infrastructure

(KPL) Villagers of Thataeng and Lamam districts, Sekong province, have urged the government to improve infrastructure in their localities.

They stated that they were concerned with the road between the capital of Sekong province and Dakchueng district.

This was said by a member of the National Assembly who represents the
constituency 16 of this southern province, Mr Phonepheth Kheuwlavong, at an interview to a local reporter this week during the ongoing fifth ordinary session of the National Assembly.

Mr Phonepheth said to the reporter that the road from Sekong to Dakchueng
district has economic, political and military implications. This road
enables one to go from Champassak to Ubon Ratchathani province in
northeastern Thailand. Also, from Sekong one can go up to Danang in Vietnam.

Then he touched on the connection between Sekong and Vietnam. Sekong
province, he said, shares a 280-km long common border with Vietnam. On the
Vietnamese side, Mr Phonepheth added there are such districts as Thua Thien
Hue, Aluoi and Giang. The Vietnamese provinces on the other side of the
border are Quang Nam and Kon Tum, said Mr Phonepheth.
He proposed that the government provide electricity to the people of
Dakchueng district and that the electricity line come from the Vietnamese
side.
This is because the Sekamane 3 dam is located in this district but as the
hydroelectric complex was built by the Vietnamese government and so all its
electric energy is being channeled across the border.
Last but not least, he urged the government to set aside some allocation to
improve the living conditions of the ethnic people in certain localities.
