Russia, Germany FM to meet over Georgia-Abkhazia settlement
MOSCOW, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian and German foreign
ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will meet n Moscow on Friday to discuss results of visits to Tbilisi and Sukhumi, and Germany's plan of Georgian-Abkhazian-settlement.
Lavrov had said "the main thing at present is to avert the resumption of the conflict and the appearance of new refuges".
He is convinced that "signing an agreement on non-use of force without
any conditions is an absolutely inevitable first step".
"Other practical things can be discusses later: the refuge issues,
economic restoration and social aspects of all these problems, as it is
envisaged by the ideas that Germany has presented in its three-stage
proposal. We are ready to consider them in this understanding," Lavrov
said.
He also believes that the "it is time to raise this question in the
UN, which Russia has already done".
"We have submitted a draft resolution of the Security Council that is
aimed at the solution of the absolutely urgent present-day resent day of
the signing by the sides of an agreement on non-use of force. Threats of
using force permanently show, and we want to put an end to any
speculations that this conflict can be settled by force," he said.
