BISHKEK, June 25 (Itar-Tass) -- Following the disorders in Kyrgyzstan,
there are up to 300,000 domestic refugees in the country, Kyrgyzstan's
Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"Many of them found a shelter at their relatives' or friends'," the
ministry said. "Over 100,000 stay in the buildings of schools and
kindergartens."
The security in the southern regions is improving gradually, the
source said, and "it makes it easier to assist the people there."
"The UN humanitarian department informed that in Osh the transport
resumed its work, both Uzbeks and Kyrgyz might be seen in the streets,
however some regions were not accessible as yet," the ministry said.
The UN humanitarian authorities and the International Red Cross
continue to distribute the humanitarian aid, but "they still cannot access
everyone who needs it," the source confirmed.
Kyrgyzstan's border service said that the number of refugees returning
home from Uzbekistan was growing.
"About 50,000 have returned home," the foreign ministry said.
The clashes started in Osh the night of June 11. On the following day
the disorders were registered in the neighbouring Jalal-Abad Region. The
government announced emergency and curfew in the conflict zone and sent
over additional military, police and voluntary police. In the clashes over
264 were dead and about 2,200 addressed for medical assistance, a few
dozens are missing. The participants in the rallies set on fire over three
hundred houses, buildings and cars.
