400 Chinese children from Sichuan arrive at Russian resort centre
VLADIVOSTOK, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - Four hundred Chinese children from the earthquake-hit province of Sichuan are received in the Russian children's health centre Okean.
During their three-week stay in the centre, the children will learn
the Russian language, attend classes in workshops and studios and have
additional education classes, go in for sports, go swimming, sun-bathe,
visit museums and sights in Vladivostok and do many other things. Days of
Russia and China will be organised for Russian and Chinese children to
acquaint themselves better with culture of the other country. Together
with the Chinese, children from the Primorsky Territory, the Kemerovo,
Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Omsk and Tyumen regions, North Ossetia and Tuva will
spend holidays in the Okean centre.
The Okean information service said that the guests from China during
the first hours of their stay learned some new games and tasted Russia's
cuisine.
The earthquake that hit the southwestern province of Sichuan on May 12
was the most devastating in China in 30 years. The death toll exceeded
70,000, and about 369,000 people were injured.
In May, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev invited children from the
quake-hit Chinese region to Russia. A thousand schoolchildren from China
will stay at Russian leading children's resort centres.
The Primorsky territory for several weeks thoroughly prepared for the
arrival of 400 children from Sichuan. Specially for them, a new menu of
Chinese national dishes was prepared and 4.5 tonnes of rice was bought.
Psychologists and emergencies ministry specialists will work in the
centre. Many children for the first time will be at a sea, and swimming
safety instructions will be given to them.
Meanwhile, according to reports from Beijing, a 4.1-magnitude
earthquake struck Sichuan on Friday morning at 09:26 Beijing time (05:26
Moscow time) and a 4.6-magnitude tremour struck another area in the
province at 00:40 Beijing time. A more powerful quake measuring 5.3 was
recorded in northwestern China on Thursday. Thousands of earth tremours
have been recorded in Sichuan and neighbouring provinces in China since
the May 12 devastating earthquake.
