ROLE OF ISLAM IN FOCUS OF REGIONAL WORKSHOP IN GUBA DISTRICT

A seminar started Friday in Guba district of Azerbaijan within the framework of the summer school on the role of Islam in international relations.

The event organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry brings
together about 30 students and young diplomats from 15 countries around the world.

The participants will hear reports by teachers of the world`s leading educational
institutions and discuss issues regarding religious tolerance in Azerbaijan,
foundations of Islam, relationships among religions, the plight of religious
minorities and other issues.

Fariz Ismailzade, director of training programs at the Academy says the purpose of
the summer session is to study Islam`s role in the international relations.
According to him, such events will be organized in the country`s other regions, too.
The seminar attendees were informed about Azerbaijan`s history, national culture,
natural resources, favorable conditions created for religious communities in the
country, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
