Supreme hierarchs of different churches to have conf in Baku in 2009
BAKU, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - Supreme hierarchs representing different religious denominations will have an international conference in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in 2009, officials at the Islamic Religious Department of the Caucasus said Friday.
The conference is convened at the initiative of the Patriarch of
Moscow and all Russia Alexy II and the president of the Islamic Religious Department of the Caucasus, Sheik-ul-Islam Allahsukur Pasazade. It will be devoted to inter-religious dialogue.
Officials said the event is likely to take place in October 2009. It will continue the cause that the heads of different religious
denominations mapped out at a religious summit in Moscow in 2006.
Leaders of religious communities from around the world are expected to attend and the organizers have also issued an invitation to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon.
