Japan provides grant to Lao

(KPL) The contract signing ceremony between the Lao and Japanese governments regarding cash grants given by the latter to fund two projects worth US$ 143,346 was held in Vientiane on 16 July.

The grant will be used to increase the productivity of a fish fingerling station in Houaykeul village, Lamam district, Xekong province and to fund a road construction project in Naphabang village, Nakhonpheng district,Saravan province.

The sum of USD63,446 is being allocated for the fingerlingstation and USD79,99O for the road building project.

Presently, the fingering station can produce only 500,000 to 1,000,000 fingerings per year this is not sufficient to meet the demand.

After it has been upgraded it should be able to produce two and a half million to three million fingerlings per year.

The road construction project is important to the people of Naphonpheng district.

It will l enable them to transport goods during the dry and rainyseasons.

At the signing ceremony, the Lao party was led by the Vice Governor of Xekong province Mr Phonphet Khelavanh. The village chief of Naphabang village was also present. The Japanese side was led by the Japanese Ambassador to Lao, Masaaki Miyashita and the other members were representatives the of the Planning Service.
