Putin to lead Russian rooters at 2008 Olympics in China
BEIJING, July 21 (Itar-Tass) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will headthe team of Russian rooters at the opening of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after his meeting with Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Monday.
"I am convinced that this will be a grandiose sport festivity that will draw to the Chinese capital hundreds of thousands of rooters,including from Russia. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will lead the Russian rooters," Lavrov said.
He added that Putin would hold talks with Chinese leaders in Beijing.
