China appreciates Russia aid after Sichuan quake.
BEIJING, July 21 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's aid in the liquidation of the aftermath of a major quake in the Chinese Sichuan province "testifies to a special level of relations of strategic partnership in cooperation between the two countries," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said at talks with his visiting Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Monday.
"On the personal initiative of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, 1,570 school students from regions hit by the quake will undergo a rehabilitation course in Russia. At the present, already 1,000 Chinese teenagers have left for Russian regions," the top Chinese diplomatstressed. According to him, the invitation "has deeply touched the Chinese people".
The Russian foreign minister, for his part, noted that "the Russian-Chinese dialogue is close and based on trust". "We highly appreciate China's gratitude for Russia's assistance in overcoming theaftermath of the quake in Sichuan," he added. He also noted that China was overcoming the aftermath of the destructive quake simultaneously with preparations for hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics.
