France’ national holiday marked in Vientiane

VIENTIANE,15 JULY (KPL) - French Embassy in Vientiane Capital held Wednesday a reception to mark the 221st anniversary of France’ national holiday (La Fête Nationale), July 14.
“Lao-French diplomatic relations has been specially nurtured for a long time,” said French Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Francois Senemaud.
According to Mr. Francois, two delegations of high ranking officials from France, led by Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment of the French Republic, Mr. Jean Louis Borloo, and French Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Ms. Anne Marie Idrac, recently paid working visits to Laos.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health and President of the National Water Resources and Environment Authority of Laos visited France to meet their French counterparts to decide their cooperation in years to come.
The French ambassador said that the cooperation between Laos and France mainly covers three areas namely health, agriculture, urban development and national heritage protection.
The Lao-French cooperation also includes areas of Francophonie and culture, public administration and higher education and research and the cooperation on these areas has been constantly developed.
“The economic cooperation has developed relatively well as we have seen the preparation for opening Lao-French Bank, which is the cooperation between the Banque pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao (BCEL) and BRED Banques Populaires and the purchase of ATR-500 airplanes by the Lao Airlines,” pointed out Mr.
Francois.
According to the French Ambassador, the Lao-French cooperation projects for years to come include: agricultural cooperation project, the UNESCO’s World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang Preservation, the establishment of Pasteur Institute in Laos, the opening to the public of newly rehabilitated buildings of the University of Health Sciences, the opening of the French Secondary School Hoffet (Lycée Josué Hoffet), the support of the roundtable meeting on government socio-economic development plan for 2011-2015 (to be held in October this year), the support of the meeting of member states of the international convention on cluster bombs (to be held in November 2010), and the opening of the Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant ( to be taking place in December this year).
