Young overseas Vietnamese from 30 countries and territories joins the 2010 Vietnam Summer Camp

HCM City (VNA) – A total of 150 young overseas Vietnamese from 30 countries
and territories are joining the 2010 Vietnam Summer Camp that opened in HCM City
on July 16.

On addressing the event’s opening ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen
Thanh Son, who is also Director of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese,
emphasised the special attention the Party and State pay to young overseas
Vietnamese.

The summer camp, which will run until August 4 and is called “flying dragon
country”, will be an excellent opportunity for young Vietnamese people who
live, work or study overseas to meet with one another, improve their mother
tongue and find out more about their homeland’s history, culture, traditions
and the Party and State’s policies, he said.

The event was opened with a special music programme given by young overseas
Vietnamese.

Following the ceremony, the participants toured Independence Hall, Nha Rong
Wharf and places of historical interest that are associated with the
country’s past struggles for independence.

During their time under canvas, the campers will meet with many young people from
six cities and provinces across the country and attend the commemoration of
fallen war martyrs in the southern province of Tay Ninh as well as a
cultural week before the celebrations for the 1,000 th anniversary of Thang
Long-Hanoi.-Enditem
