TAIWANESE MANUFACTURERS LOOKING AT HALAL CERTIFICATION FOR FOOD PRODUCTS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Taiwanese authorities are looking at the
possibility of making the country's food products acceptable in the halal
market.

Taichung City mayor Jason Hu said Taiwanese food product manufacturers were
working towards obtaining halal certification for their products to be accepted
by Halal Industry Development Corporation.

"We are also looking at setting up factories for the processing of Taiwanese
food products in Malaysia within the next one to two years," Hu said during a
media preview of Taiwan's exhibits at the Malaysia International Food and
Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB) 2010 here Wednesday.

MIFB 2010, to be held from July 22 to 24 at the Putra World Trade Centre,
will see strong participation from Taiwan's Economic Affairs Ministry and the
Council of Agriculture.

Hu said the participants included Taichung County and Taichung City, Taiwan
External Trade Development Council, Taiwan Confectionery, Biscuit and Floury
Food Association, World Trade Centre Taichung and Taiwan Invention Products
Promotion Association.

The Taiwan pavilion will be opened to visitors during the trade fair,
comprising about 100 stalls and exhibitors.
