Charity Golf for development fund raising to be held

(KPL) The National Tourism Administration (NTA) of Laos, the Vietnam Airlines and the Golf Federation will jointly hold a charity golfcompetition on 3 August, at the Youth Garden Km 14 Golf Course in Vientiane.

This competition is aimed at raising fund for constructing new roads and clean water in remote areas of the Lao PDR, said Vice NTA Chairman, Mr Soukaseum Bodhisane, at a press conference last Friday. Mr Soukaseum said, "Funds obtained from the golf competition will be spent on tourism development and the construction of clean water source for people in remoteareas".

He added that the NTA would spend the fund on vocational training for ethnic groups in rural areas, and to create new tourism advertisements.The charity golf is a friendly competition between Lao, Vietnamese and Thai players. The competitors will pay one million kip (about US$100) for registration. And then they will receive clothes, a golf bag and dinner at the end of the competition. The event will be divided into three categories for men such as grade A (handicap 1-12), B (handicap 13-24), C (handicap 25-36), one for women and one for players aged over 61 years(handicap 1-36).

The winners in each category will receive trophies and air tickets. The golfer who records the lowest overall points will receive a round trip from Laos to Australia. The grade A winner will receive a round trip from Laos to Europe, the grade B will be awarded a round trip from Laos to North East Asia and the grade C winner will be awarded a round trip from Laos toVietnam.

The woman winner will be awarded a round trip from Laos to South East Asia and the senior winner will get a round trip to any destination. The golfers can register at the NTA, at the Km-6 Golf Course, the Lao-ITECC Golf Course, the Golf Vientiane (Donedaeng Village) and the Youth Garden Km-14 GolfCourse. The registration is now opened for the public.
