DNRD releases details of Hatta border post
Dubai, July 23, 2008 (WAM)- Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice-President of UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, Department of Naturalization '&' Residency in Dubai (DNRD) will begin next month the construction project of a new border crossing in Hatta at a cost of Dh15.5 million.
Major-General Mohammed Ahmad Al Marri, Director of DNRD announced that this crossing will be completed within 12 months and will provide all servicesthat include basic infrastructure and serve as a cultural gateway as well.
Major-General Al Marri added at a press conference held this morning (Tuesday) at the headquarters of DNRD that the number of users of this crossing has reached 155 thousand individuals in arrivals and departures monthly. He noted that the design of this project takes into consideration the cultural aspects of the country and the distinguished architectural style that Hatta is distinguished for which makes it one of the mainnational tourist landmarks.
He also explained that Hatta border crossing is considered one of the vital crossings in the country that links UAE and Oman. This crossing has witnessed increased commercial and tourist activities between the two countries, thus, there is a need to develop this crossing to provide convenience and ease to travellers in accordance with the development that the whole country is witnessing at all levels. He also mentioned that detours and temporary offices are up and running during the construction of this project in cooperation with RTA to facilitate the flow of traffic andavoid congestion.
The crossing will receive incoming vehicles from Oman through three lanes, one of them is dedicated for trucks, and another lane for uninsured vehicles, and the third one will branch out into five gates to process DNRD and customs procedures through a special office that has been established by DNRD to check passports and another one for insurance companies to insureuninsured vehicles.
Major-General Al Marri stressed DNRD's commitment to ensure and offer all facilities to Hatta Border Crossing users as individuals and companies and to promote the growth of commercial, tourist, and social activities betweenthe two peoples.
The project is composed of several detached buildings to facilitate and process the procedures of all people coming from Oman and save time and achieve a smooth flow of activities. The main building includes at the ground floor a rest area, a Mosque, and other services. The first floor will be dedicated to DNRD employees. The second building includes insurance companies and an outlet to process travellers' requests. The third building is a canopy that contains five gates to process passport and customs procedures. The fourth building includes a gate to check the completion ofall processes for incoming travellers from Oman.
The last building includes departure services for individuals going from UAE to Oman to get insurance and complete customs processes. Individuals leaving UAE will then go to Omani office to finish their entry process to Oman while all processes for incoming individuals to UAE will be done at Hatta BorderCrossing.
Brigadier Obaid Mehayer Bin Suroor, Deputy Director of DNRD noted that each gate at the five outlets can process the transactions of two vehicles at the same time without the need for passengers to leave their cars. This is donethrough passport control for travellers and then vehicles move to customs.
He added that departing vehicles towards Oman can use all lanes that havepassport control counters, and customs and insurance services.
