Primorsky terr honors veterans of RF-Japan conflict at Hasan lake

VLADIVOSTOK, July 23 (Itar-Tass) - Veterans of the Russian-Japanese armed conflict at the Hasan Lake in 1938 are honored in the Primorskyterritory on Wednesday.

The action "Forever in the people's memory" began in the territory.

The action is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Hasan conflict that is marked in July-August 2008, the press center of the territorial authorities told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

Twelve participants of that battle live in the Primorsky territory.

Residents of Vladivostok, Bolshoi Kamen, Ussuriisk, the Khorol andVolno-Nadezhdinskoye districts are among them.

Home appliances and the book "Feat on the border", a special edition for the jubilee date, will be presented to each veteran. The book contains never published materials, documents, photos about the Hasan events. Manyof them were kept in the archives and were classified.

The Hasan clashes flared up in 1938 between the Japanese imperial troops and the Soviet army over the raw between the countries to which the territory adjoining the Hasan Lake and the Tumanaya River belongs. During the conflict on July 20-August 11 the Soviet army lost 989 servicemen and more than 3,000 people were injured. The Japanese troops lost 500servicemen and 900 people were injured.
