Russia's Lavrov states progress in talks on NKorea nuclear issue
SINGAPORE, July 23 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister SergeiLavrov has stated a progress in talks on the North Korean nuclear issue.
He told reporters after his meeting with US Secretary of StateCondoleezza Rice on the sidelines of the ASEAN security forum in Singapore that "we have agreed about the need to adhere to the accords that were reached back in September of 2005".
"There is a certain progress, but it is important to not to slow down the tempo, to continue efforts to fulfill obligations of all sides on areciprocal basis. Russia strictly fulfills its obligations," Lavrov said.
Foreign ministers of all parties in the six-nation talks on the North Korean nuclear issue will be held for the first time since their beginningin 2003.
They will hold an informal meeting in Singapore at the ASEAN regionalsecurity forum.
"It seems to us that the meeting will prove useful for achieving a progress at the six-party talks," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi,whose country presides in the "sextet", said.
He said the meeting might "move the process of denuclearization ofNorth Korea" to a new phase.
