CHAIRMAN OF CAUCASIAN CLERICAL OFFICE MEETS ASSOCIATE DEAN OF SWC

Baku, 24 July,(AzerTAj)Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade met Tuesday in Baku with Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate dean of the Los-Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC).

A. Pashazade briefed on democratic reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan, workdone to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as freedom of religion.

He stressed Azerbaijan is a country of religious tolerance, adding that people of different nationalities coexist and freely observe their religiousceremonies here.

On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, A. Pashazade said “Armenians have destructed all historical-cultural monuments and mosques and churches in the occupied territories.” Rabbi Abraham Cooper, in turn, praised favorable conditions created in Azerbaijanfor activities of religious communities.

According to him, Azerbaijan should be an example to other countries for religioustolerance.

Attending the meeting, representatives from different religious communitiesexchanged views on religious tolerance in Azerbaijan.
