EASTERN BIOTECH EXPANDS "HOUSE OF HEALIN" OUTLETS VIA FRANCHISE SYSTEM

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa

JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Eastern Biotech Resources Sdn
Bhd plans to expand its "House of Healin" outlets locally and overseas via the
franchise business system.

Its executive director and founder, Prof Dr Hassan Yaacob, said for a
start, 34 entrepreneurs have already been identified by the company to
participate in the franchise system.

Two months ago, the company (Eastern Biotech) entered the franchise business
and early this month it selected the 34 entrepreneurs, he told Bernama here
Saturday.

He earlier officiated the launch of the first "House of Healin" franchise
outlet in Malaysia in Bandar Baru Uda near here. The outlet is owned by Kamuss
Collection Sdn Bhd.

The "House of Healin" sells various health related products based on the sea
cucumber nutrient such as Gamogen and others. It also sells cosmetics under the
brandname of AG2000 produced by Eastern Biotech.

In the next three months, he said the company expected to open up another
50 to 70 outlets nationwide once it completes the training and registration of
many more franchisees.

Dr Hassan said the company had opened 328 such outlets in the last 15 years
including in the east Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak under its
conventional business system.

It has now started a new era with the franchise system in order to further
expand the business, he said, commending the success seen by franchise bigwigs
like McDonald's and Kentucky Friend Chicken (KFC).

"These companies have succeeded through the franchise system, and we should
follow the example," he said.

He said the successful new franchisees will be given training and would also
sign up with the company as franchisor and also with Perbadanan Nasional Bhd
(PNS).

He said the company has also received the support of the Franchise
Association of Malaysia for its "House of Healin".

On its overseas expansion, Dr Hassan said they would give attention to
markets in Thailand and the Middle East.

The company, which has outlets in Haadyai and Dubai, will expand their
business through the franchise system, he said.

Meanwhile the owner of Kamuss Collection Sdn Bhd, Kasmaliza Kamaruddin said
apart from the products, the outlet would also offer other beauty services.
