Drawing up a strategic plan to fight climate change

(KPL) - The National Steering Committee of Environment Protection held an evaluation meeting on drawing up a strategic plan on the effects a climate change and it was held at the Prime Minister's Office on 22 July.

Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, Mr. Asang Laoly, chaired the meeting.

The National Steering Committee presented its report to the meeting on the need to draw up a national plan on climate change, how to formulate this plan and how to establish the working committees.

The participants also discussed the establishment of working committees to cover and to be responsible for seven divisions.

The proposals on food security, human well being and agricultural production would be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The proposals on how to fight against the deterioration of agricultural land, forest destruction and degradation of the natural biological system were submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and National Land Defense.

A report on energy consumption in the country and export of electricity was given to the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

The report on meteorology and weather forecasting and how they would affect water resources would be given to the Water Resource and Environment Organization.

The report on infrastructure development of Vientiane was submitted to Ministry of Public Work and Transport.

A study on how economic development could be affected by climate change was submitted to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
