Tokyo urges Pyongyang to reinvestigate abduction issue
TOKYO, July 24 (Itar-Tass) - Japan insists that North Korea's authorities should reinvestigate the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea's special services in the 1970s and 1980s, Chief CabinetSecretary Nobutaka Machimura said on Thursday.
He called on Pyongyang to take concrete actions to fulfil its promise to reinvestigate the issue, the Kyodo news agency said.
"We've seen no reaction from North Korea. It is important that they show a sincere response as soon as possible," Machimura told a news conference.
He also stressed the importance of the first six-party foreign ministerial meeting on North Korea's denuclearisation in Singapore onWednesday. The negotiators agreed to verify Pyongyang's list of nuclear programs.
Machimura urged the soonest possible holding of a new round of thesix-party talks at the working level.
