Foreign ministers to meet over Korea nuclear issue-Russia ForMin=1.
MOSCOW, July 24 (Itar-Tass) - An official ministerial meeting of the "sextet" on the North Korean nuclear issue will be held in Beijing, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on after an unofficial meeting of the "sextet" in Singapore on the sidelines of the ASEAN forum on Wednesday.
"The ministers have pointed to the need for activating the six-party process and expressed readiness to hold their official meeting in Beijing, dates of which will be coordinated additionally," the Foreign Ministry said.
"The foreign ministers of the six countries have positively appraised the recent progress in settlement of the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula and confirmed commitment to the ultimate goals of the negotiations - securing a monitored nuclear-free status of the Korean Peninsula. Much attention was paid to the need to work out effective procedures of checking the declaration that has been recently presented by North Korea about its nuclear programmes", the Foreign Ministry said.
"Russia's approach to the need for adequate use of the potential of IAEA (the International Atomic Energy Agency) during the conduction of respective control measures has been on the whole supported."Russia, China, the US and South Korea have confirmed their obligations on compensation supplies to North Korea of fuel oil and energy equipment in parallel with North Korea's measures to dismantle the nuclear reactor in Yongbyon," the Foreign Ministry said.
It also said that "Russia's proposal to activate work within theframework of the six-party talks on the project 'Guidelines for Ensuring Peace and Security in Northeast Asia' with the aim of creating a respective multilateral mechanism has been met positively".
Foreign ministers of the member states participating in the six-nation nuclear talks held an informal meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN security forum on Wednesday.
The participants were Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov; Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi; North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Yi Chun; South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung Hwan; US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice; and Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.
