INDONESIANS REMINDED TO GO HOME USING LEGAL CHANNELS
MELAKA (Malaysia) Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Immigration Department
director-general Abdul Rahman Othman has reminded Indonesians going home for the
Aidilfitri celebration to use legal channels.
Indonesians who entered Malaysia illegally could get citizenship
confirmation at their embassy and immigration would process the documents and
compound them.
"The compound is from RM1,000-RM3,000 based on the offences. Documentation will
take one day provided the embassy confirmation letter is genuine," he told
reporters at the Home Ministry Complex here Saturday.
Rahman said going home using legal channels was better than using boats to cross
the Straits of Melaka as it was dangerous.
Most of the returning Indonesians had overstayed in the country while some had
entered illegally.
Some 7,418 illegal immigrants were deported in the first six months of the year
compared with 46,187 in 2009 with Indonesians the most at 90-93 percent.
