PM urges Binh Thuan to tap tourism potential

Binh Thuan (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has pledged favourable conditions for central Binh Thuan province to tap potential to become a large tourism centre in the country.

While working with the Binh Thuan's authorities on July 24, PM Dung also asked the province to ensure a healthy environment for tourism sector's sustainable development.

In the first six months of the year, Binh Thuan attracted over 1 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 12.8 percent.

The PM also highlighted the province's efforts to achieve a year-on-year GDP growth rate increase of 17.4 percent in the first half of the year, including a rise in industrial production and exports of 31.4 percent and 9.4 percent, respectively, and a reduction of poor households to below 8 percent.

PM Dung requested local authorities to review shortcomings in order to make a leap in socio-economic development.

He asked the province to check changes in cultivation crop structure and develop plans for irrigation water supply and mineral exploration.

He also asked the province to continue to implement the Government's guidelines in curbing inflation, developing production and ensuring social security.

Local authorities were also asked to support businesses in promoting production and exports, review investment sources, control price hikes and assist poor people and fishermen.
