Laos, Luxembourg further cooperation on tourism development
(KPL) The Luxembourg government has agreed recently to provide a grant aid worth 5.5 million Euro, to support the project to strengthen human resources in the hospitality and tourism industry in the Lao PDR.
A signing ceremony for the grant aid was held in Vientiane on 23 Julybetween Mr. Soulivong Dalavong, Minister of Planning and Investment, and Mr. Marc Ungeheuer, Luxembourg Ambassador to Laos, and the President of the National Tourism Administration of Laos, Mr Somphong Mongkhonvilay.
Laos and Luxembourg have signed a co-operation framework for the 2006-2010 period, in which tourism is one of the priority project. The main purpose of the project to strengthen human resources in the hospitality and tourism industry in the Lao PDR is to help the Lao government achieve its efforts to promote tourism as the main means for the social-economic development.
The main activities of the project are to build a vocational training centre for tourism. The government of Laos also presents some areas for the construction of the centre in Vientiane Capital.
