CZECH MEDIA COVERAGE ABOUT AZERBAIJAN

Baku, 26 July,(AzerTAj)After the visit of Czech Republic`s Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg to Baku the country`s major newspapers published articles about Azerbaijan.

“Hospodarske noviny” writes “for several years Azerbaijan is having the fastest growing economy in the world. The number of countries seeking to sign oil contracts with Azerbaijan is increasing day by day. The government has done a lot to improve human well-being, and poverty rate has fallen to 16% in the country. Average monthly salary is $500-600.” “Lidove noviny” published an article about Azerbaijan`s political life. It says “President Ilham Aliyev, who has wide knowledge, is a pragmatic, pro-Western politician. The forthcoming presidential election in the country will be more democratic.” The author underscores that Azerbaijan`s opposition parties and media operatewithout any interference.

On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the newspaper writes “for many years Azerbaijani territories have been under Armenian occupation and more than one million people are internally displaced persons within their country.” The newspaper also published Karel Schwarzenberg`s interview in which he says the Czech Republic recognizes Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and backs peacefulsettlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Lidove noviny” has also published an article about Armenia. It says “there is a tragic situation in Armenia, in the wake of which 60 percent of people are out of work and one third of them have left the country.” The newspaper also writes the Armenian authorities used all means to falsify the results of the recentpresidential elections.
