A 46 million USD contract with India's BHEL signed

Hanoi (VNA) - A 46.6 million USD contract was signed on July 28 to supply electronic-mechanical equipment to the Nam Chien hydro-power project.

Under the contract, India 's Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) will supply equipment directrly to the Nam Chien Hydro-power Joint Stock Company,the project's main investor.

"The 46.6 million USD electro-mechanical equipment package is the single largest contract between India and Vietnam under the Indian Lines of Credit," said Shantanu Srivastave, managing director and CEO Norvis Holdingsand Ex-Chairman of the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam .

The Nam Chien hydro-power project, approved by the Prime Minister in 2004, includes two units which will supply the national grid with 814 million kWhannually.

The 4,174 billion VND (260 million USD) Nam Chien hydro-power plant islocated in Muong La District in the northern province of Son La.

Construction on the dam started on December 28, 2007. Until now, total investment for the project has reached approximately 1,000 billion VND (62.5 million USD). And more work is underway to ensure the approved schedule ismet.
