Parts of relics of 86 Kievan saints to arrive in St Petersburg.
St PETERSBURG, July 30 (Itar-Tass) - Fragments of relics of 86 highly venerated saints from the world-famous Kiev Monastery of the Caves, also known as the Kiev Caves Laura, will be delivered by a special flight to St Petersburg Wednesday.
The transition of the relics of Kievan saints, including those of Russia's first chronicler Nestor and the legendary medieval knight-errant Elijah of Murom, is a landmark event for the Russian Orthodox community in St Petersburg, a city that used to have a huge permanent mission of theMonastery of the Caves before the Bolshevik revolution of 1917.
The relics will be deposited at the church in the name of Finding ofthe True Cross, located at the Artillery Cadet School.
A festive liturgy and a sermon of thanksgiving will be held at thechurch on this occasion.
This church was founded at the Cadet Schools in 1810 by the brother of Emperor Alexander I, the Grand Prince Constantine, and was re-establisheda year ago.
Since its numerous halidomes did not survive the decades of state-sponsored Soviet atheism, the St Petersburg diocese took a decisionto keep there the relics arriving from Kiev.
